Wassim - I'll be interested to hear more of your views on Arabism, especially as your blog describes you as Syrian Arab - with the mphasis on Arab.

Carlo - I'm sure that it's incompetence for Bush personally. Apparently Bush didn't know what a Shia Muslim was at the time of the invasion. For the neo-cons in the think tanks, however, I think it was worse than incompetence. Yes, Katrina is an intersting comparison, even if Katrina wasn't planned in the way the invasion was! With katrina, it looks like the Bush regime just didnt care about the poor and black people left in new orleans, at last not until they realised they wer facing an image disaster.

I agree with most of what you say. However, you did not really prove it was not incompetence. Instead, if precedence is relevant, Bush government has been racked by incompetence in all domains: Katrina, the management of the attorney generals, the handling of the social security reform proposals. True, I think now there are people who perceive that chaos in the Middle East is to their advantage and purposefully make Bush pursue it. But I think it was serendipity, don't you?

Hmm..very interesting. I have my own views about Arab nationalism as an ideology and believe it is doomed to a failure. I'll be interested to know why you think so though.

On another note, have you ever thought about registering your blog with Syria Planet? It's an excellent blog aggregator run by Yazan and all you have to do is e-mail him a link to your blog. Have a look on syplanet.com
