Ahmed was a 12 year old boy shot and killed on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, in 2005.

He had been given money by his parents for toys and sweets. Dressed in a new suit, he purchased sweets and a toy gun and was playing in the streets. A soldier who 'mistook' the toy for a real Uzi shot at him twice, once in the back of the head; he was immediately comatose.

Ahmed died two days later, during which time his parents had made the decision to donate all his organs, without prejudice. Five Israeli and Arab children received his organs.

Ismail and Abla Khatib are ordinary people who live in Jenin refugee camp. They unflinchingly promote human values; understanding, reconciliation and love. Their gesture is stunning, and has reverberated powerfully around the world.

A film has been made about the experience called 'The Heart of Jenin' - I highly recommend you take a look at it if you can get a copy.

Do you mind my asking how you feel about your visit to Palestine?

I am deeply moved by your entry.

Cultural resistence is what keeps the people alive; the pride in their rich history, fortifying their incredible spirit.

The weight of the burdens they carry should crush them, but I have never seen such humanity or humour in any set of people, as I've witnessed in the Palestinians.

Have you heard of the story of Ahmed and his parents, Ismail and Abla Khatib?
