my only fear is that there are a lot of falacies going around now, many are spreading fears of lebanese-civil war style targetting minorities. plz allow me to bring to your attention that the brotherhood in the 80s didn&#039;t only kill alawis, they killed secular sunni intellectuals as well. furthermore, if here was an armed faction amongst the brothers, that did not apply to all, nor was it an integral elemnt in the movement&#039;s ideological make-up (the brotherhood was politically active in in Syria since the 40s). There are, in all cases, too many divergent perpective on who did what in the 80s.

It was quite unfortunate that Nasser/Baath/Assad systematically exterminated/expelled/imprisoned the intellectual elite in the movement since the 50s. Equally unfortunate was the systematic alienation of the baath ideology from practice. Indeed, a healthy liberal enviroment could allow both parties to co-exist and gain popular support.]]></description>
